How Do You Install Rise And Fall Brackets ?
Share
Often asked question in our stores, the principal is the the same for round, square, deepflow and commercial rise and fall brackets
Tools and materials needed
- Rise and fall brackets with drive in spike and cradle
- String line or laser level
- For masonry a hammer drill and masonry bit 20mm, for wood flat or auger bit 20mm
- Spirit level
- Adjustable spanner
- Tape measure
- Hammer or rubber mallet
- For damaged mortar or for repairing, chemical anchor resin which is fast setting and very strong fixing
Plan the fall of the gutter which usually requires 3mm - 5mm per metre towards the downpipe
- Mark the high point which is furthest from the downpipe
- Mark the low point where the downpipe will be
- Measure the distance between them.
- Calculate the total drop for example a 8 metre run with a 4mm drop per metre total 32mm across the full length
Setting up the string line for the fall of the gutter
- Drive in the first spike at the high end
- Drive in the last spike at the low end
- Tie a string line tightly between them
Drive in the rise and fall spike
- Position each spike about 800mm to 1 metre apart
- Drill pilot holes if the wall/structure is hard
- Drive each spike into the wall or mortar using a hammer drill, if loose or not secure chemical anchor resin them in
- Or directly hammering into mortar/wood depending on bracket type
- As you insert each spike, adjust its height using the string line as your guide
- Keep the spikes aligned horizontally so the gutter sits straight side-to-side
Adjust the cradle the rise and fall part
- Each spike has an adjustable cradle held by a bolt
- Loosen the bolt
- Set the cradle height so the gutter follows the line of fall
- Tighten the bolt firmly
Fit the gutter
- Clip the gutter sections into the cradles
- Add joints and stop-ends as needed
- Check that joints fall slightly toward the downpipe, the gutter sits fully supported and there are no dips or reverse falls
