How to Use Zinsser
- Remove dirt and dust old, flaky paint efflorescence (white salt deposits) mould or algae
- A stiff wire brush or pressure washer (for exterior walls) works well.
- Clean any mould If mould is present, use a fungicidal wash.
- Watertite will prevent future mould growth, but you must remove existing mould first.
- Repair cracks and holes before applying Watertite, fill cracks with a masonry filler, patch holes with hydraulic cement if water is actively seeping through and remove loose or crumbly masonry, this step ensures a solid substrate for the waterproof coating.
- Apply the first coat Using a brush or roller, a brush is best for pushing the coating into pores, especially on the first coat
- Stir the paint thoroughly apply a thick, even coat work it into any pits or porous areas The first coat acts as the main waterproofing layer
- Allow it to dry Watertite typically dries quickly, but drying times vary depending on humidity and temperature.
- Apply the second coat, a second coat is required for full waterproofing protection.
- Apply in the opposite direction of the first coat where possible ensure full, even coverage After the second coat dries, the surface will be fully sealed and protected.
- Coverage up to 2m² per litre.
Benefits of Using Zinsser Watertite
- Stops water penetration and forms a tough impermeable barrier that prevents water seepage through masonry which makes it ideal for basements, cellars, retaining walls, foundations and damp-prone masonry walls.
- Resists hydrostatic pressure unlike standard paint, meaning it blocks groundwater being pushed through walls from the outside, this is essential for below-ground spaces.
- Long-Lasting mould resistance Watertite contains powerful mould inhibitors that prevent mould and mildew growth for at least five years, which is perfect for damp, dark areas like basements garages and storage rooms.
- Excellent adhesion Its specially engineered formula sticks to porous or damp masonry far better than conventional paints, no peeling or flaking just a tight, durable bond.
- Bright, clean finish Watertite dries to a smooth white finish, instantly brightening darker rooms and improving visibility in basements.
- Many users comment that their basement looks cleaner and more usable after painting.
- Interior and exterior use whether you're sealing a damp basement or waterproofing an outdoor retaining wall, Watertite performs exceptionally well in both environments.
