The Concept of Pointing and Grouting
The Concept 210018 Pointing and Grouting Gun is a trade standard essential designed to take the back breaking effort out of repointing brickwork and grouting patio slabs. Using a high-thrust 12:1 mechanical ratio, it allows for a continuous, clean bead of mortar or grout that significantly outpaces traditional trowel and hawk methods.
What’s in the Premium Pro Kit?
This kit is built for longevity and high volume work. It includes:
- 1 x Heavy Duty Applicator Gun: Featuring a high thrust trigger for easy flow.
- 2 x 68mm Mortar Tubes: Allows for quick swapping so one tube can be cleaned or refilled while the other is in use.
- 2 x Pointing Nozzles: Specifically shaped for mortar and deep joints.
- 2 x Grouting Nozzles: Designed for thinner tile or patio grout.
- 2 x Plungers: To ensure a tight seal and maximum pressure within the tube.
- 1 x Mixing Whisk: Attaches to a drill to ensure your mix is lump free and creamy.
- 1 x Pointing Tool: For striking off and finishing the joints professionally once filled.
The "Downpipe" Hack: 68mm Tubes
A standout feature of the Concept 210018 is the 68mm tube diameter. This is a deliberate design choice: 68mm is the standard size for domestic uPVC downpipe.
If you are working on a large project and find yourself needing more than the two supplied tubes, you can actually cut sections off standard 68mm downpipe to create extra spare barrels. This allows a site helper to pre-fill multiple tubes while the lead mason continues to use the gun, ensuring zero downtime on the project.
Assembly and Parts Guide
Assembling the gun is straightforward and requires no tools:
- Plunger Insertion: Ensure the rubber plunger is fitted securely to the end of the metal rod. Lightly dampen it with water or a drop of lubricant (silicone grease or spray) for a smoother glide. Pull the plunger all the way to the rear.
- Nozzle Fitting: Place your chosen nozzle on to the end of the mortar tube.
- Inserting the Tube: Once you have your mixture to the correct consistency, fill the tube to approx 1in (2.5cm) from the top and insert in to the applicator.
- Engage Plunger: Ensure the plunger is aligned with the mortar tube and gently squeeze the trigger to extend the rod and plunger into the tube.
Which Nozzle Should You Use?
The Premium Pro kit provides two distinct styles of nozzles to suit different material viscosities:
- Pointing Nozzles: These are generally larger and often angled. They are designed for Brick Pointing and Flagstones. They handle "thicker" mortar mixes (typically a 4:1 sand-to-cement ratio with a plasticiser) without clogging.
- Grouting Nozzles: These are narrower and used for Tile Grouting or Fine Paving. Because grout is usually "runnier" than mortar, these nozzles provide the precision needed to fill narrow gaps (4mm–8mm) without spilling over the face of the brick or tile.

Pro Tip for Excellent Results
The secret to success with this applicator gun is the mortar mix. Always use Soft or Building sand rather than Sharp sand, and never skip the plasticiser. The mix needs to be a "creamy" consistency, if it’s too dry, it will block the nozzle; if it’s too wet, it will bleed out of the joints. Use the included mixing whisk to get it perfectly smooth every time!
